Abstract: The coursebook “English Unlimited- Elementary” is written by Alex Tilbury, Theresa Clementson, Leslie Anne Hendra & David Rea in 2010 and used for the first-year students at University of Information and Communication Technology under Thai Nguyen University since 2014. However, up to now, there has been no official research conducted to evaluate the relevance of the coursebook to the learners’ purposes as well as its outcome requirements. The purpose of this study is to reveal the findings and information about the coursebook evaluation from the perspectives of students and teachers of ICTU. With this regard, the study tries to assess the relevance of the coursebook to the students’ needs in terms of knowledge, skills and methodology. The study is divided into three parts including: Introduction, Development and Conclusion. Ten teachers of English and 120 first-year students participated in the survey. The findings show that the coursebook is rather relevant to the needs of learners.

Wetting effect on optical sum frequency generation (SFG) spectra of D-glucose, D-fructose, and sucrose

(Graph Presented) We report a sum frequency generation (SFG) spectroscopy study of D-glucose, D-fructose and sucrose in the C-H stretching vibration regime. Wetting effect on the SFG spectra was investigated. The SFG spectrum of D-glucose changed from that of α-D-glucose into those of α-D-glucose monohydrate by wetting. The SFG spectra showed evidence of a small change of β-D-fructopyranose into other anomers by wetting. SFG spectra of sucrose did not change by wetting. Assignments of the vibrational peaks in the SFG spectra of the three sugars in the dry and wet states were performed in the C-H stretching vibration region near 3000 cm-1. Torsional buckling and post-buckling behavior of eccentrically stiffened functionally graded toroidal shell segments surrounded by an elastic medium

The nonlinear buckling and post-buckling problems of functionally graded stiffened toroidal shell segments surrounded by an elastic medium under torsion based on an analytical approach are investigated. The rings and stringers are attached to the shell, and material properties of the shell are assumed to be continuously graded in the thickness direction. The classical shell theory with the geometrical nonlinearity in von Kármán sense and the smeared stiffeners technique are applied to establish theoretical formulations. The three-term approximate solution of deflection is chosen more correctly, and the explicit expression to find critical load and post-buckling torsional load-deflection curves is given. The effects of geometrical parameters and the effectiveness of stiffeners on the stability of the shell are investigated.
